HEDGLEY

This 'wrap-around extension' to a terraced Victorian house in Blackheath comprised infilling the side alleyway up-to the boundary (Party) wall, and also adding a rear extension so that we maximised the available internal space.

The clients - an energetic and colourful family - wanted the scheme to reflect their personalities, so we had a lot of fun bringing some quirkiness into the design by not only exposing the new structural steel beams, but painting them in their favourite colour - orange!

The rear elevation uses Staffordshire Blue Bricks (an interesting alternative from more standard London Clay Bricks), and they are staggered so that they add some depth and intrigue to the facade. They look especially beautiful when the sun is shining, or at night, when you can see the light bounce off them and accentuate the pattern.

We were also given the 'green light' to be creative with the downstairs toilet, twinning glossy bottle green brick tiles with a jungle wallpaper to create a truly unique space.
